El Faro

El Faro Restaurant Inc.

El Faro, which means “The Lighthouse” in Spanish, is a Mexican restaurant that serves authentic Mexican food and is the originator of the San Francisco Mission‑style "Super Burrito." Burrito legend has it that business founder Febronio Ontiveros created the first Mission burrito on September 26, 1961, to feed a group of hungry firemen. He slapped some meat, beans, rice, sour cream, salsa, and guacamole on several layered tortillas before rolling them into cylindrical form. El Faro is proud to be a local family-owned business and an integral part of San Francisco’s history.
